At an event held on the 19th of April in Brisbane QLD, together with a number of its customers and technology partners, RIoT Solutions officially opened its state-of-the-art security operations centre (SOC). Boasting a full-time staff count of 15 analysts and cybersecurity professionals, the locally operated and owned facility underpins a range of Managed Security Services (MSS) the Company has taken to market including managed visibility, threat intelligence, vulnerability-management-as-a-service, endpoint security-as-a-service, user-awareness and incident response services.
“We are extremely excited about our new SOC facility. Not only is it proudly QLD based, but it also provides us a fantastic launching pad to service the wider Australian market without using offshoring services”, stated Rob Merkwitza Managing Director and CEO. “We are convinced that providing local, fast and agile managed services in the Cybersecurity domain is an important factor for companies looking for a trusted, skilled partner and our customers have made this very clear to us to date”, he added.
At the launch today, Jon Robertson National SOC Manager took the group through a tour and explained some of the intricacies involved in running the professional operation. “As it currently stands, we are ingesting over a terabyte of data and managing 100,000 assets for approximately 50 customers across enterprise and Government”, he stated. “From an operational perspective the biggest challenge we face is skillset. It is difficult to find people that have the right balance of system administration and situational awareness. Our strategy has been to build out that skillset through a well-defined graduate program which has proved highly successful to date”.
Nick Long, National Product Manager spoke of some of the new bolt on services recently released that takes a logical approach to helping customers deal with the never-ending day-to-day impact of managing Cybersecurity in a typical organisation. “Although there is a need and a lot of focus on the identification and stopping of active threats in the network, we have found that consistent user-awareness such as regular phishing campaigns, Dark Web intelligence and having the confidence in relying on fast and professional incident response in the event of a breach is just as important”, he said. “Our most recent endpoint security-as-a-service addition in partnership with Carbon Black, has had a very positive response from our customer base”, he added.
Rhian Greenway, CIO of City Beach addressed the group during the corporate event agreed with these sentiments as he presented his companies recent experience in working with RIoT Solutions and their MSS team during a time of need last year.
RIoT Solutions has been on a steady growth trajectory since its inception in September 2015 taking out the number one spot in the CRNFast50 in 2017, number 6 in 2018 and recently number 11 in 2020. It now employs 55 people across Australia, headquartered in Brisbane. The post COVID era has seen a dynamic spike in the need for MSS and network architecture and design services, both of which have significantly impacted the growth of the company over the past 6 months. In parallel there has been a lot of activity within the critical infrastructure practice of the organisation. “The acceleration of State-based investments across the country are filtering down to
OT/IT services”, said Rob Merkwitza. “Our key differentiator is that we provide our services across both disciplines which we are seeing converge more and more. With our experience during the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, we see ourselves very well position for the recent announcement of the potential of South East QLD hosting the Olympic Games,” he concluded.
